Do you have a “recipe bucket list”—those culinary creations you’ve always intended to make but somehow never get around to? Perhaps you’ve heard whispers of a delicious dish, told yourself you’d try it, and then days, weeks, months, or even years have slipped by without it ever gracing your kitchen. For me, that elusive item was homemade nut butter. In our ongoing journey to reduce processed foods in our diet, while still embracing the conveniences of modern life, I finally embarked on my first attempt at crafting nut butter from scratch. With macadamia nuts being a personal favorite, I already had a generous supply on hand. So, I began there, adding a hint of almonds to create this uniquely delightful **Almond & Macadamia Nut Butter**. I’m thrilled with the results of my initial endeavor and already envisioning a future filled with diverse homemade nut butter varieties.
Making your own nut butter isn’t just a fun kitchen experiment; it’s a step towards a healthier lifestyle. Store-bought nut butters often contain added sugars, unhealthy oils, and preservatives that we simply don’t need. By making it at home, you gain complete control over the ingredients, ensuring only the purest, most wholesome components make it into your spread. This translates to a fresher taste, superior nutritional value, and the satisfaction of knowing exactly what you’re fueling your body with. Furthermore, the ability to customize flavors, like this almond and macadamia blend, opens up a world of possibilities for creative, healthy eating.

The process itself wasn’t inherently difficult, but it certainly required a healthy dose of patience. This project took considerably longer than I anticipated, and even longer than what many other recipes suggested. Perhaps it was my technique, or perhaps the specific equipment I used. I discovered that my blender yielded far better results than my food processor. It seemed there was too much open space in the food processor, preventing the nuts from consistently engaging with the blades. This likely contributed to the extended processing time. Ultimately, transferring the mixture to my high-powered blender dramatically sped things up. Consequently, for my next batch, I’ll definitely start with the blender. I look forward to sharing future recipes and my insights on this process change with you all.
Achieving that perfectly smooth, creamy texture in homemade nut butter is a journey. It starts with whole nuts, which first break down into a coarse, crumbly meal. As you continue to process, the natural oils begin to release, transforming the meal into a thick paste. This stage can be frustratingly stubborn, and it’s where many people give up. However, with persistent scraping of the sides and continued blending, the paste will eventually loosen and become a luxurious, pourable butter. The key is to trust the process, keep blending, and resist the urge to add extra oil unless absolutely necessary. The longer you process, the warmer the nuts get, and the smoother your butter will become. It’s a small act of culinary magic, witnessing dry nuts transform into a silky spread.

The end product was truly delicious. There’s an immense satisfaction that comes from creating something so wholesome and flavorful with your own hands. This homemade nut butter boasts a rich, buttery taste from the macadamias, complemented by the subtle earthiness of the almonds. It’s naturally sweet with a hint of honey, and the touch of salt perfectly balances the flavors. The texture is incredibly smooth and spreadable, making it an ideal companion for a variety of treats. I can hardly wait to pair it with some of the homemade jams I’ve been perfecting lately, envisioning delightful breakfasts and snacks.

Almond & Macadamia Nut Butter {Back to School Extravaganza & Giveaway}
Ingredients
- 1-1/4 cup macadamia nuts
- 3/4 cup almonds
- 2 tbsp + 1 tsp raw honey
- 1/2 tsp Princess Cake & Cookie Bakery Emulsion
- 1/4 – 1 tsp salt – to taste
- 1 tsp coconut oil
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 conventional/ 325 convection.
-
Spread almonds on a baking sheet and toast for 6-8 minutes. This step is crucial for releasing their natural oils, which contributes to a smoother butter.
-
Immediately remove the toasted almonds from the oven and transfer them to your food processor or, preferably, a high-powered blender.
-
Add the macadamia nuts to the processor/blender with the almonds.
-
Puree the nuts until they reach a smooth consistency. This can take approximately 4-6 minutes. Remember to scrape down the sides of the container frequently to ensure all nuts are evenly processed.
-
Once smooth, add the raw honey, bakery emulsion, salt (to taste), and coconut oil to the mixture.
-
Continue to puree until the butter becomes incredibly creamy. The longer you blend, the silkier and more luxurious the texture will be. This final blending stage can range from 6 to 20 minutes, depending on the power of your machine. Be patient, continue scraping the sides, and let your appliance work its magic.
-
Transfer the finished nut butter to clean and sterile jars. Store it in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
