Seriously, the simplicity of this method is remarkable. Once the bacon reaches your desired crispness, we simply transfer the strips to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease. But don’t toss that rendered fat just yet! After it cools, we collect it in a small container and store it in the fridge for future recipes – it’s liquid gold for cooking. The remaining grease and mess are neatly contained within the foil, which you can simply ball up and discard. Cleanup truly is lickity-split, saving you precious time and effort.

Commonly Asked Questions About Oven-Cooked Bacon

Can I use frozen bacon for this method?

While cooking bacon from frozen isn’t ideal due to the difficulty in separating the slices evenly, you can absolutely thaw previously frozen bacon and cook it using the exact same oven method as fresh bacon. Simply allow it to thaw completely in the refrigerator before laying it out on the baking sheet.

Can I cook bacon in a toaster oven?

Although I haven’t personally tried it, the oven method can be adapted for a toaster oven. Set the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and arrange the bacon slices flat on the toaster oven pan. Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your preferred level of crispness. Keep a close eye on it, as toaster ovens can heat differently than full-sized ovens.

Foolproof Recipe for Oven Baked Bacon

Can this oven bacon recipe be doubled or tripled?

Absolutely, and we frequently do! Doubling or even tripling the recipe works perfectly fine, though it might extend the baking time slightly to achieve the desired crispness. The key is to ensure the bacon slices aren’t excessively overlapping. For larger batches, I highly recommend using a 3/4 sheet pan, which comfortably fits up to 2 pounds of bacon without overcrowding.

How many servings does one pound of bacon yield?

This recipe uses 1 pound of bacon. The number of servings largely depends on its intended use. For instance, it’s the ideal quantity for crumbling into a large batch of mac and cheese or for feeding our family of five adults, complementing a hearty breakfast of eggs and toast. Generally, one pound serves about 4-6 people as a side dish.

How to Make Perfect Oven-Cooked Bacon: Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat your oven to a consistent 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with heavy-duty aluminum foil. This is crucial for easy cleanup and containing the grease. For extra crispiness and less grease, you can also place an oven-safe wire rack on top of the foil-lined baking sheet.
  3. Carefully lay out the strips of bacon in a single layer. Try your best to avoid overlapping them, as this ensures even cooking and maximum crispness. It’s perfectly fine if the edges curl up slightly – they don’t need to be completely flat.
  4. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired level of crispness. Cooking times can vary based on the thickness of your bacon and your oven’s calibration. For medium-crisp bacon, aim for around 20-25 minutes. If you prefer extra crispy bacon, extend the cooking time to 25-30 minutes. Always keep an eye on it during the last few minutes to prevent burning.
  5. Once done, carefully transfer the cooked bacon strips to a plate lined with several layers of paper towels to absorb any excess grease.
  6. Quick Clean-up Tip for Colder Months: After removing the bacon, if your pan has cooled slightly, stick the entire baking sheet full of rendered grease outside for a few minutes. The cold air will quickly solidify the grease, making it incredibly easy to ball up the foil and dispose of the grease without any drips or mess. In warmer climates, let it cool on the counter, then scrape the solidified grease into a jar for storage or disposal.

What is the best way to store leftover cooked bacon?

To keep leftover cooked bacon fresh and delicious, simply store it in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Ensure it has completely cooled before storing. As long as you don’t leave it at room temperature for an extended period, it will maintain its quality well when chilled. Reheat gently in the microwave or a warm oven.

Can I use an air fryer to cook bacon?

Yes, you can certainly use an air fryer to cook bacon, and many people love this method for its speed. However, I personally find that it often creates more mess than the oven method, especially with grease splatters inside the fryer basket that require detailed cleaning. If you prefer the air fryer, set it to 400°F (200°C) and cook until crispy, which typically takes about 8-12 minutes, depending on your air fryer model and bacon thickness. It’s a good idea to check halfway through and rearrange the slices with a fork or tongs for even cooking.

To make Perfect Oven Cooked Bacon, you will need…

  • Quality bacon (any thickness, though cooking times may vary)
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil (for easy cleanup)
  • A large, rimmed baking sheet
  • An oven
  • Optional: A wire rack for extra crispness
