Transforming Chaos into Calm: My Journey to Organization with Rubbermaid All Access Organizers

There’s a universal truth for many homeowners and creatives alike: clutter can be overwhelming, stifling productivity and peace of mind. For me, the journey to a truly organized home has been a challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, adventure. The Unforeseen Challenge: Downsizing and Space Constraints

Our recent cross-country move just seven months ago presented us with a unique set of challenges. Relocating for a new job meant a tight 30-day window, and as we quickly discovered, moving services in Northern Idaho are quite seasonal. This was a stark contrast to our previous life as California natives, having spent 12 years in the Nevada desert where such logistical hurdles were uncommon. House hunting became a rapid-fire endeavor with slim pickings. In fact, we took a monumental leap of faith, purchasing our current home sight unseen, relying solely on photos, phone calls, and an unwavering belief that everything would fall into place. Thankfully, it did.

However, this new chapter came with a significant caveat: our new home is a full 1000 square feet smaller than our last. Despite a massive effort to declutter and downsize by selling or donating 50% of our belongings, we still found ourselves incredibly tight on space. In my previous home, I enjoyed a spacious dedicated office, two large closets, and ample garage storage for all my crafting supplies. Here, the garage had to be converted into my studio – a blessing in itself – but it left me without a dedicated office. This meant my extensive collection of crafting essentials had to spill into half the linen closet and most of the coat closet, turning these functional areas into overflowing, disorganized storage zones.

The constant struggle to find things, the visual clutter, and the sheer inefficiency of my storage situation had honestly been driving me absolutely INSANE! Every time I wanted to embark on a creative project, I’d face a mountain of supplies, leading to frustration before I even began.

A Glimmer of Hope: Discovering Rubbermaid All Access Organizers

So, you can imagine my immense relief and positive thrill when I was given the incredible opportunity to try out the new Rubbermaid All Access Organizers. The promise of an innovative storage solution that could bring order to my chaotic craft supplies felt like a lifeline, and I couldn’t wait to put them to the test.

The Home Depot Experience: Affordability Meets Innovation

My excitement was palpable as I made my way to The Home Depot to pick up my organizers. Upon arrival, I was not only pleasantly surprised by how affordable they were but also delighted by the vibrant blue and green colors available. They immediately evoked a sense of calm and reminded me of the serene ocean, a welcome touch amidst my organizational quest. Even more surprising was their size – they were much larger and sturdier than I had anticipated, promising substantial storage capacity. With my new organizers in hand, I rushed home, eager to tackle the mess that had been plaguing me for months.

Confronting the Clutter: Before and After Transformation

It’s truly embarrassing to admit, but my craft closet had been in this state of disarray for the past few months. As I continued to acquire new crafting supplies, they would simply get unceremoniously dumped into this closet, largely because we rarely opened its door. This “out of sight, out of mind” approach, however, proved to be a recipe for disaster. Every single time I wanted to create something, I’d have to literally tear everything out, sifting through piles and hunting for the specific items I needed. Let me tell you, I have absolutely NO PATIENCE for this kind of inefficiency. It instantly puts me in a foul mood when I’m forced to search endlessly for supplies. My ideal scenario involves having everything within clear sight and easily accessible. I genuinely dislike feeling disorganized, and this situation had reached its breaking point. It was time for a drastic change.

The Small Bin: A Mighty Solution for Craft Essentials

I was genuinely amazed at how neatly and efficiently all my previously scattered items fit into the Rubbermaid All Access small bin. Despite its designation, this bin is far from small in terms of capacity. I managed to fit an incredible amount of craft supplies inside, showcasing its surprisingly generous volume. What truly makes this organizer a game-changer for me is its clear side door. This ingenious feature allows me to access my items without the hassle of removing the lid or unstacking other bins. I can easily see everything from a “label view” rather than just the tops of lids, which is incredibly helpful for quick identification. The ability to reach in from the side is absolutely AWESOME!

For someone like me, who relies heavily on visual cues and tends to forget what I own if I can’t see it, a standard, opaque tote would have been equally as annoying. I’m prone to repurchasing items I already possess simply because they’re hidden from view. This highlights precisely why being organized is paramount to my ability to function efficiently. I have too many projects, too many ideas, and my mind is often in too many places to rely on memory alone. The clear side doors of these organizers, allowing me to easily see and access my supplies, are an absolute lifesaver. I LOVE them!

The Large Bin: Streamlining My Camera Strap Business

Next up is the large bin, and let me tell you, this thing holds a TON of stuff! I immediately knew I would dedicate it to corralling all the fabric and supplies necessary for making my custom camera straps. Previously, all these materials were haphazardly dumped into a single, oversized (almost person-sized!) tote, mixed in with other fabric scraps and anything else that could squeeze in. Every time I received a new order, I would have to drag out this behemoth of a tote, dig through its contents, and hunt for the specific fabrics, hardware, and embellishments required. This inefficient process was not only frustrating but also incredibly time-consuming. It truly felt like a form of torture to be so disorganized!

Thanks to the large Rubbermaid All Access Organizer, that chaotic chapter is officially closed. Now, everything I need for my camera strap production is consolidated in one easy-to-grab, visually accessible space. I was astonished to fit an impressive 30 stacks of fabric, along with all the accompanying essentials – batting, spray adhesive, and even most of my packaging supplies (excluding the shipping boxes) – into this single bin. This transformation has not only saved me countless hours but has also brought immense joy and efficiency to my small business operations. That makes me HAPPY!!!

Design and Versatility: Thoughtful Features for Any Space

As you can see from the photos, I ended up purchasing both the blue and green organizers. While I initially hoped to get the green in both sizes, the small green option wasn’t available during my Home Depot visit. However, the colors serendipitously reminded me of the soothing hues of the ocean, so I was perfectly content with my choices. My original plan was to stack a set of organizers in each of my designated spots. However, their generous size, which was greater than I expected, meant that only one of each size fit perfectly. The good news is that these organizers are designed to stack well and can still be opened from the side when stacked. In my particular closet, though, the existing shelves prevented me from stacking them as high as I initially envisioned. Nevertheless, this setup works exceptionally well for me, primarily because of that ingenious side door. I don’t have to remove the bins from the shelves to access my supplies; I can simply open the side flap and retrieve what I need. And for those instances when I prefer top access, the lids are also fully removable.

A Vision for an Organized Future: Expanding the System Throughout My Home

Looking around, you can still spot various projects in progress – unfinished boxes awaiting their transformation, a shelf that desperately needs repainting, an assortment of ropes for various endeavors, and a waffle box currently housing burlap and raffia, just begging to be covered with paint or contact paper to hide that distracting logo. These visible reminders only underscore the ongoing battle against clutter, a battle I now feel much better equipped to win. I am unequivocally convinced that I will be investing in a whole lot more of these incredible Rubbermaid All Access Organizers.

Every single closet in this house, from the bedroom to the hall, is crying out for better organization, as is my perpetually busy laundry room. My prop cabinet, a treasure trove of items for product photography, is currently bursting at the seams, and these organizers would be absolutely perfect for neatly storing and easily accessing all my photography props. Furthermore, the kids’ school supplies urgently need to be moved into these dedicated organizers, separating them from their craft materials and games to prevent further mixing and chaos. The possibilities for organization with Rubbermaid All Access Organizers are truly SO MANY! It looks like I’ll be spending a lot more time at The Home Depot, happily picking up more of these essential organizers from Rubbermaid to bring lasting order to every corner of my home.
