Embracing Autumn’s Whisper: Project 52, Northern Idaho, and the Magic of Seasonal Transitions
Good Morning, dear friends, and welcome back to our weekly photo journey, Project 52!
We trust you’ve had a truly wonderful weekend, filled with moments of joy and perhaps a touch of inspiration. Here in the serene landscapes of Northern Idaho, we’ve been savoring these final, precious days of August. The air carries an unparalleled crispness, a refreshing coolness that allows us to keep our windows wide open, inviting the gentle caress of the mountain air indoors. This place, with its breathtaking beauty and tranquil rhythm, continues to be an absolute treasure for us. Every day spent here reinforces our deep sense of gratitude and blessing for this extraordinary opportunity to call it home.
The Evolving Lens: Capturing Idaho’s Wonders
Life in Northern Idaho presents an endless tapestry of visual delights, constantly inspiring us to pick up our cameras. This environment fosters a unique appreciation for the subtle shifts in nature, from the fleeting colors of a sunset to the enduring silhouettes of pine trees against the horizon. It’s a photographer’s paradise, offering subjects that are both grand and intimately personal.
Chasing Sunsets in the Mountains

Just the other evening, I was fortunate enough to capture this spectacular sunset. It’s an interesting phenomenon here; we don’t experience intensely colorful sunsets with the same frequency as we did in the desert. This is largely attributed to the lower concentration of dust particles in the atmosphere, which once offered us a vibrant palette almost nightly in our previous home. Consequently, when a truly magnificent display unfolds, I instinctively rush out to grab a few quick snaps. The view from our backyard, with its majestic pine trees silhouetted against the painted sky, is something I cherish deeply. After years of longing for such greenery in the arid desert, these towering trees are a welcome and awe-inspiring sight, a constant reminder of nature’s profound beauty.
The Mystique of the Blue Moon

Last week presented a unique celestial event – a Blue Moon – and I managed to capture its serene glow. My approach to moon photography has certainly evolved since our move. My husband recently asked me why I once rushed out nearly every night to photograph the moon, a habit I now indulge in less frequently. As I pondered his question, I realized it stems from the sheer abundance of captivating subjects surrounding me here. In the desert, my photographic canvas often felt limited to variations of sand, and capturing other elements, like the moon, became a cherished focus. Now, every corner of Northern Idaho offers a new ‘pretty thing’ to photograph, from the intricate details of forest flora to panoramic mountain vistas. This richness means I no longer yearn for new subjects; I am constantly inspired and deeply grateful for this blessing, never taking it for granted.
For those interested in revisiting some past celestial captures, you can find images from the Blue Moon in September 2012 HERE, and a collection of super moon and lunar eclipse images from 2012 HERE. While these recent Blue Moon shots are lovely, they perhaps don’t quite reach the dramatic brilliance of my lunar eclipse captures from last year, which truly represent some of my best work in moon photography to date. Sometimes the atmospheric conditions align perfectly for clarity, and other times, it’s simply a joy to document the event as it happens.

Autumn’s Gentle Embrace: A Season of Change and Comfort
As the consistent warmth of the 80s gradually gives way to cooler temperatures, there’s an undeniable feeling that autumn is just around the corner. And honestly, I am absolutely squealing with excitement for its arrival! Fall is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year, and I’m certain that my enthusiasm will be vividly reflected here on the blog as I dive headfirst into all things autumnal. The transition brings a promise of changing leaves, crisp air, cozy evenings, and a bounty of seasonal delights that truly invigorate the senses and soul.
This past weekend, we gathered a truly massive basket of fresh produce from our local co-op. It was an incredible haul, reflecting the abundance of the late summer harvest. I’ve already spent a considerable amount of time meticulously preparing these delicious ingredients, transforming them into an array of delectable treats that I’m eager to share with you all as the season progresses. From hearty stews to sweet baked goods, these culinary adventures are an integral part of embracing fall’s unique charm.
