Frequently Asked Questions About Baking M&M Sprinkle Cookies
To help you master these delightful Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies, here are answers to some commonly asked questions:
Can I customize the chocolate chips in this recipe?
Absolutely! While semi-sweet and white chocolate chips create a wonderful balance, feel free to get creative. If you prefer the creamy sweetness of milk chocolate, the intense flavor of dark chocolate, or even a fun twist with peanut butter chips, any of these will taste fantastic in these cookies. Experiment to find your favorite combination!
What is the best way to store leftover Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies?
Keeping these festive cookies fresh is simple. The easiest and most effective way is to place them in a large, airtight container and store them at room temperature. I often use a spacious plastic bowl with a secure lid, or a zip-top bag works wonderfully too. Stored properly, they’ll maintain their delicious chewiness for several days, perfect for continued snacking!

How many servings does this M&M cookie recipe yield?
This particular recipe yields approximately 9 regular-sized cookies. It’s a perfect small batch for an intimate gathering, a special treat for your family, or just the right amount to set out for Santa! If you’re planning for a larger crowd or want to have plenty of extra cookies on hand, you might consider making a double batch.
Can this recipe be doubled for a larger quantity of cookies?
While the dough itself doesn’t always perform optimally when simply doubled in one large batch, I understand the need for more cookies, especially during the busy holiday season! If you need more than 9 cookies, I highly recommend making this recipe in **double batches sequentially**. This means preparing two separate batches back-to-back, rather than mixing double the quantity of ingredients all at once. This method ensures the best texture and consistency for your delicious M&M sprinkle cookies.

Should I use salted or unsalted butter for these cookies?
When it comes to butter, I’m quite flexible and typically use whatever I have on hand in my fridge. However, if you are monitoring your salt intake or prefer a more controlled flavor profile, I would suggest sticking with unsalted butter for these Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies. My original recipe was developed using unsalted butter, but I’ve also successfully made them with salted butter, and honestly, I found them equally delicious. The choice is yours!
How to Make Delicious Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies
Crafting these thick and chewy Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies is a joyous and straightforward process. Follow these steps to bake a batch of holiday perfection:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat these ingredients together until they are well combined and creamy.
- Slowly beat in the egg and vanilla extract, ensuring they are fully incorporated into the sugar mixture.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients. Mix on low speed, working the dough until the dry ingredients are just combined. Be careful not to overmix. The dough will be soft and slightly sticky.
- Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, half of the holiday M&M’s, and all of the vibrant holiday sprinkles.
- Portion the dough into 9 large, even balls. Place these dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Bake for 11 minutes. It’s crucial not to overbake these cookies; they will look slightly underdone in the center, but this is the secret to their wonderfully chewy texture.
- Immediately after removing the cookies from the oven, press the remaining M&M’s onto the tops of the warm cookies. This adds extra visual appeal and chocolatey goodness before they set.
- Allow the cookies to cool and set on the baking sheet for at least 5 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling completely. This step helps them firm up and prevents them from breaking.
Do I need to chill the cookie dough?
Here’s one of my favorite things about this Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies recipe: there’s absolutely no chill time required! This means you can whip up a batch of these delectable treats whenever the craving strikes or when you need a last-minute dessert for an unexpected holiday gathering. No waiting, just baking, and enjoying these soft and chewy cookies sooner!
Can I use gluten-free flour for this recipe?
I haven’t personally tested this recipe with gluten-free flour yet, but it’s on my list to try! If you decide to experiment, I would highly recommend using a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend like this one. These blends are typically formulated to substitute regular all-purpose flour directly without needing additional modifications to the recipe. If you give it a try, please come back and share your results; I’d love to hear how these festive M&M cookies turn out in a gluten-free version!
How do I properly measure flour for baking?
Properly measuring flour is key to achieving the perfect cookie texture. The official and most accurate method is to spoon the flour into your measuring cup and then level it off with a straight edge (like the back of a knife). For these Christmas M&M Sprinkle Cookies, I usually fluff the flour in its container with a spoon first. Then, I gently scoop the fluffed flour into the measuring cup without packing it down, and finally, level it off before adding it to my dough mixture. It’s important to avoid packing the flour tightly into the measuring cup, as this can add too much flour, leading to dry, dense cookies instead of the soft and chewy kind we’re aiming for.

The Secret to Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
The key to achieving wonderfully soft and chewy chocolate chip M&M sprinkle cookies lies in a few simple techniques. Using melted butter contributes to a richer, chewier texture, while brown sugar adds moisture and depth of flavor. And remember the golden rule: do not overbake! Pulling the cookies out when they look slightly underdone ensures they remain soft and moist once cooled, giving you that perfect, irresistible bite every time.
