Indulge your sweet cravings with these incredibly easy 3-Ingredient Keto Sugar Cookies! Perfectly soft, delightfully chewy, and tasting just like your favorite traditional sugar cookies, these treats are a dream come true for anyone following a ketogenic or low-carb lifestyle. The best part? There’s absolutely no almond flour involved, ensuring a truly amazing texture that avoids the common pitfalls of gluten-free baking. Prepare to be amazed by how simple and satisfying these sugar-free delights are to make and enjoy.
Who can resist the allure of a classic sugar cookie? The buttery goodness, the soft bite, and that comforting sweetness – it’s a timeless favorite for many. When my household transitioned to a ketogenic diet, the absence of such simple pleasures, especially during festive seasons, was deeply felt. The thought of holiday baking without soft, melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies seemed almost unimaginable.
Driven by a passion to reclaim our cherished dessert traditions, I embarked on a journey to adapt our most beloved recipes into keto-friendly versions. While some attempts undoubtedly ended in culinary misadventures, a few stood out as absolute triumphs. These Keto Sugar Cookies, inspired by our immensely popular 4-Ingredient Sugar Cookies, are one such success story. They exceeded all expectations, delivering on taste and texture without compromising our dietary goals.

When it comes to cookies, I confess to being incredibly particular. Years have been spent, and a fair amount of resources invested, in perfecting recipes that genuinely replicate the essence of their traditional counterparts. A recipe only earns a place on my table (and here to share with you) if it can pass the ultimate “low-carb detection test.” In other words, if you can tell it’s low-carb from the taste or texture, it simply doesn’t make the cut.
Thankfully, these delightful cookies not only passed that rigorous test but soared past it with flying colors. They have become a staple in our kitchen, made countless times since we embraced this dietary path. I truly hope these cookies bring as much joy and satisfaction to your home as they have to ours.
Effortless Keto Sugar Cookies: A Simple Guide to Sweet Indulgence

Embarking on a keto journey doesn’t mean sacrificing your favorite desserts. Our 3-ingredient keto sugar cookies are a testament to how simple and delicious low-carb baking can be. These cookies are not just easy; they are a game-changer for anyone looking for a guilt-free sweet treat. Let’s dive into some common questions to help you master this fantastic recipe.
Frequently Asked Questions About Keto Sugar Cookies
What Exactly Are Keto Sugar Cookies?
Keto sugar cookies are a revelation for anyone on a ketogenic diet or those aiming to significantly reduce their sugar intake. Unlike traditional sugar cookies laden with refined sugar and high-carb flours, these low-carb, sugar-free alternatives are crafted with specific keto-friendly ingredients. Our recipe uses a specialized keto flour blend, rich butter, and granulated erythritol to deliver a taste and texture that rivals their conventional counterparts, making them a delicious and healthy choice.
How Many Carbs Are in a Keto Sugar Cookie?
One of the most impressive aspects of our keto sugar cookies is their incredibly low net carb count. Each cookie contains approximately just 1 gram of net carbs, making them an ideal treat that won’t derail your ketogenic goals. This allows you to enjoy a sweet indulgence without the guilt or the blood sugar spike associated with regular desserts.
What is the Best Way to Store Leftover Keto Sugar Cookies?
Proper storage is key to maintaining the delightful softness and chewiness of these keto sugar cookies. Once completely cooled, transfer them to an airtight container. I recommend storing them at room temperature, either on the counter or in your pantry. Stored this way, they will remain soft and delicious for up to a week. I haven’t experimented with refrigerating them, so I can’t speak to how that might impact their texture or shelf life, but at room temperature, they are simply perfect!
Should I Use Salted or Unsalted Butter for This Recipe?
This recipe doesn’t explicitly call for added salt, but I find that a subtle hint of salt perfectly complements the sweetness, especially when using artificial sweeteners which can sometimes taste sweeter than regular sugar. Therefore, I highly recommend using salted butter. It effortlessly balances the flavors, creating a more nuanced and enjoyable cookie. If unsalted butter is all you have on hand, feel free to use it, but consider adding a small pinch of salt to the dough to achieve that perfect flavor harmony.
Embrace Guilt-Free Indulgence with Sugar-Free Sugar Cookies

What is the Main Difference Between a Keto Sugar Cookie and a Regular Sugar Cookie?
The most significant distinction between our keto sugar cookies and traditional ones lies in their nutritional profile, particularly their sugar and carbohydrate content. Our keto version boasts zero added sugar and an exceptionally low carb count, making them suitable for restricted diets. In contrast, regular sugar cookies are typically made with substantial amounts of sugar and refined flours, leading to a much higher carbohydrate load. This recipe allows you to enjoy the beloved flavor of a sugar cookie without the adverse metabolic effects of excessive sugar.
Essential Ingredients for Your Keto Sugar Cookies
Crafting these simple yet delicious keto sugar cookies requires just a few key ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Butter: Essential for that rich, classic cookie flavor and tender texture.
- Erythritol (PureCane Baking Sweetener, granulated): Our preferred sugar substitute, providing sweetness without the carbs.
- Keto Flour: Specifically, we use Mouthwatering Motivation Keto Baking & Pastry Flour for its excellent texture and low net carb profile.
- Almond Extract (Optional): Adds a lovely depth of flavor. If you’re not a fan of almond, vanilla extract is a perfect substitute.

Can I Substitute Another Type of Sweetener?
While I’ve primarily tested this recipe with granulated erythritol, specifically the PureCane brand, I did achieve good results with Swerve brand erythritol as well. The key is to use a granulated sweetener that measures similarly to sugar and behaves well in baking. In the future, I plan to experiment with allulose and monk fruit sweeteners to explore other delicious possibilities and textures. If you decide to try an alternative sweetener, I would be thrilled to hear about your results and how they turned out!
So, There’s No Almond Flour in These Cookies? That’s a Game Changer!
You heard right – absolutely no almond flour! If you, like me, find the distinctive texture and mouthfeel of almond flour baked goods to be less than ideal, then this recipe is truly for you. That unique texture has often been my biggest hurdle when trying to create keto versions of my favorite dishes. Almond flour just doesn’t deliver the classic cookie experience I crave.
This is where Mouthwatering Motivation Keto Baking & Pastry Flour steps in as our secret weapon. This innovative flour blend is also used in many popular keto-friendly bread products. It’s incredibly high in fiber, which effectively cancels out most of its carb content, making it a fantastic choice for a ketogenic diet. This incredible ingredient allows us to recreate our favorite recipes, ensuring we don’t sacrifice flavor, texture, or worry about unwanted carbs. It’s truly a win-win!
Enjoying Low-Carb Sugar Cookies Guilt-Free

What Are the Health Benefits of Keto Sugar Cookies?
Beyond their delicious taste, keto sugar cookies offer several compelling health benefits. They are notably low in carbohydrates and calories compared to traditional cookies, making them an excellent choice for individuals focused on weight management or maintaining their current weight. Additionally, these cookies often have a higher fat and protein content, characteristic of the keto diet, which contributes to increased satiety and stable energy levels. This makes them a more fulfilling and wholesome snack option. Finally, the simplicity of making keto sugar cookies ensures that everyone, regardless of dietary restrictions, can enjoy a delectable treat that aligns with a healthier lifestyle.
How to Master 3-Ingredient Keto Sugar Cookies: A Step-by-Step Guide
Creating these delightful keto sugar cookies is incredibly straightforward. Follow these simple steps for perfect results every time:
- Prepare Your Oven and Baking Sheets: Begin by preheating your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (160°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Cream Butter and Sweetener: In a large mixer bowl, combine the softened butter and granulated erythritol. Beat these ingredients together until they are thoroughly combined and the mixture becomes light and fluffy. This step incorporates air, contributing to the cookies’ soft texture.
- Incorporate Flour and Extract: Gradually add the keto flour to the butter mixture. If you’re using almond (or vanilla) extract, mix that in now as well. Continue to beat until a cohesive dough forms and begins to pull away cleanly from the sides of the bowl.
- Portion and Shape the Dough: Take spoonfuls of dough, about 1 inch in diameter, and roll them gently between your hands to create smooth, uniform balls.
- Arrange on Baking Sheets: Place the shaped dough balls onto your prepared baking sheets, ensuring they are spaced at least 1-2 inches apart to allow for spreading. Lightly press down on the top of each dough ball to flatten it slightly.
- Optional Sweetener Sprinkle: If desired, you can sprinkle a little extra erythritol on top of the flattened cookies before baking. While I often do this with traditional sugar cookies and granulated sugar, I typically skip this step with erythritol as its sweetness is already potent.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake the cookies for 14-16 minutes. It’s crucial not to over-bake them, as they will firm up considerably as they cool. Look for lightly golden edges.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes. This helps them set and prevents them from breaking. Then, carefully transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling completely before serving. Enjoy your homemade keto sugar cookies!
Do I Need to Chill the Dough?
Absolutely not! This is one of the many reasons why I adore this particular cookie recipe. There’s no need for chilling the dough, which means you can go from craving to cookie in less than 30 minutes. It’s perfect for those spontaneous sweet cravings or when you need a quick dessert without the extra waiting time.
Can I Freeze Keto Sugar Cookies?
Yes, these versatile cookies freeze beautifully, both baked and as dough. To freeze baked cookies, wrap each cooled cookie individually in plastic wrap, then place them all into an airtight freezer-safe container. They will maintain their quality for up to 2 months.
If you prefer to freeze the dough, portion the rolled dough balls and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Freeze until firm, then transfer the frozen dough balls to a zip-top freezer bag for convenient storage. This method is excellent for meal prep and saves freezer space. The dough can also be stored for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to bake, simply thaw the dough to room temperature before following the baking instructions.
Making the Best Keto Christmas Cookies
These keto sugar cookies are not just for everyday treats; they are also perfect for holiday baking, especially as keto Christmas cookies. Their rich flavor and adaptable nature make them ideal for festive occasions. While this particular dough isn’t suited for intricate cut-out shapes, you can easily dress them up with a keto-friendly glaze or a dusting of powdered erythritol to make them extra special for any holiday gathering. Imagine sharing these delightful, guilt-free cookies with family and friends during the festive season – a true celebration of taste and wellness.

Can I Use a Different Extract?
Absolutely! Customizing the flavor of these cookies is simple by swapping out the extract. While almond extract provides a lovely, slightly cherry-like note, vanilla extract is a fantastic and universally loved alternative if you prefer a more classic taste. Sometimes, I even like to use a half teaspoon of each to create a beautifully balanced and complex flavor profile. Feel free to experiment with other extracts like lemon or peppermint for seasonal variations!
How Many Cookies Does This Recipe Yield?
This recipe typically yields about 18-20 cookies. However, the exact number can vary depending on how large or small you roll your dough balls. For these cookies, I aimed for approximately 1-inch dough balls.
During my initial testing phases, I used the same measurements as my standard easy sugar cookie recipe. I quickly discovered that the specialized keto flour has a higher absorbency rate, resulting in a slightly stiffer and drier dough. This also led to a larger batch, yielding around 25 cookies. If you prefer a firmer sugar cookie, you can increase the amount of keto flour to 2 cups for this recipe, and you’ll likely get even more cookies from your batch.
Can I Roll Out the Dough to Make Cut-Out Cookies?
Unfortunately, no. While these cookies are incredibly delicious and easy to make, this particular dough is not suitable for rolling out and cutting into shapes. Its consistency won’t hold up like a traditional cut-out sugar cookie recipe. It tends to be a bit too soft and crumbly for intricate shapes, making it best for simple drop or pressed cookies.
What Kind of Flour Is Used in These Keto Sugar Cookies?
For these outstanding keto sugar cookies, we exclusively use Mouthwatering Motivation Keto Baking & Pastry Flour. This innovative flour blend is a game-changer for keto baking. It boasts a high fiber content, which is crucial for ketogenic diets as it allows you to subtract those grams from your total carb count, resulting in very low net carbs. Texturally, it performs remarkably similarly to all-purpose flour, providing a familiar and pleasant mouthfeel. However, due to its unique fiber composition and the fact that it’s a modified wheat flour, it does absorb more moisture than your standard all-purpose flour, which is important to keep in mind when adjusting recipes or making substitutions.
