Common Questions About Air Fryer Spring Rolls
Can I Make These Spring Rolls Vegan?
Absolutely! One of the best aspects of this recipe is its inherent flexibility, making it incredibly easy to adapt to various dietary needs. The core filling ingredients are plant-based, which means the base recipe is already vegan-friendly. The main consideration for ensuring your spring rolls are 100% vegan is to double-check your spring roll wrappers. Most spring roll or egg roll wrappers are made with wheat flour and water, but some might contain egg. Look for wrappers specifically labeled “vegan” or check the ingredient list to ensure they are free of animal products like eggs or dairy. Once you’ve secured vegan wrappers, you’re good to go!
How Do I Keep the Spring Rolls from Sticking in the Air Fryer?
Preventing your delicious spring rolls from sticking to the air fryer basket is key to achieving that perfect golden finish. Here are a few simple tips: Firstly, ensure that your air fryer basket is clean and free of any residue from previous cooking. Before placing the rolls, lightly spray the basket itself with a good quality non-stick cooking spray or brush it with a thin layer of vegetable oil. Secondly, it’s crucial to arrange the spring rolls in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they do not touch each other. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and increase the likelihood of sticking. Finally, after placing them, lightly coat each spring roll with a bit of vegetable oil or cooking spray. This thin layer of oil contributes to their crispiness and helps create a non-stick barrier. These steps combined will help ensure your spring rolls lift cleanly from the basket every time.

What’s the Best Dipping Sauce to Serve with These?
The right dipping sauce can elevate your air fryer spring rolls from great to absolutely unforgettable! For a classic and universally loved pairing, Thai sweet chili sauce is a fantastic choice, offering a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy notes that beautifully complement the savory filling. Traditional soy sauce provides a simple yet elegant umami punch, while a creamy peanut sauce adds a rich, nutty, and slightly sweet dimension that many find irresistible. I’m also a huge fan of classic sweet and sour sauce; its vibrant tanginess and fruity sweetness provide a delightful contrast to the crispy texture of the rolls. Don’t hesitate to experiment with different sauces to find your personal favorite, or even offer a variety for guests to choose from!
Storage and Reheating for Maximum Crispness
Homemade spring rolls are truly one of my all-time favorite foods, and making them in the air fryer ensures they’re not only healthier but also maintain an incredible flavor profile. Proper storage is key to enjoying them later, and reheating correctly will bring back that irresistible crispiness.
Refrigerator
If you have any delicious leftovers, store cooked spring rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To restore their glorious crunch, reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until thoroughly heated and crispy again. Avoid the microwave, as it will make them soggy.
Freezer
For longer storage, both cooked and uncooked spring rolls can be frozen. To freeze, arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. They can be stored for up to 2-3 months. When ready to enjoy, you can cook them directly from frozen in the air fryer, adjusting the cooking time as needed (usually an extra 5-10 minutes) until golden brown and crispy.

Essential Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Spring Rolls
Making spring rolls can feel a bit like an art form, especially if it’s your first time. Don’t worry if your initial attempts aren’t perfect; practice truly makes perfect! Your first couple might look a little wonky, but you’ll quickly get the hang of it and soon be rolling like a pro.
- Preheat Your Air Fryer: Always preheat your air fryer to the recommended temperature before adding the spring rolls. This crucial step ensures they begin cooking immediately and evenly, which is vital for achieving that desirable crispy, golden exterior. A cold air fryer can lead to soggy or unevenly cooked results.
- Avoid Overfilling: It’s tempting to pack your spring rolls with as much delicious filling as possible, but resist the urge! Overfilling can cause the wrappers to burst during cooking, leading to a messy basket and a less appealing presentation. A modest, yet generous, spoonful of filling is usually just right.
- Seal Tightly with Cornstarch Mixture: The cornstarch and water mixture is your secret weapon for keeping your spring rolls perfectly intact. This slurry acts as a natural glue, ensuring the edges are sealed tightly and the flavorful filling stays securely inside during the air frying process. Don’t skip this step!
- Turn Halfway Through: For uniform browning and all-around crispiness, remember to turn the spring rolls over halfway through their cooking time. This exposes all sides to the circulating hot air, preventing one side from becoming overly crisp while the other remains pale.
- Light Oil Coating: While air frying significantly reduces the need for oil, a light spray or brush of cooking oil over the exterior of each spring roll before it goes into the air fryer is highly recommended. This thin layer of oil contributes significantly to achieving that beautiful golden-brown color and irresistible crispy texture.
Simple Ingredients for Delicious Spring Rolls
The beauty of these air fryer spring rolls lies in their simple, wholesome ingredients, many of which you might already have on hand. The cornstarch mixture is particularly important, acting as an effective sealant that truly makes a difference in keeping these little bundles of joy together.
- Spring Roll Pastry Wrappers: Look for the square, thin pastry wrappers, not the translucent rice paper wrappers used for fresh spring rolls. These are typically found in the freezer section of Asian markets or larger grocery stores.
- Tricolor Coleslaw Mix: A convenient blend of shredded cabbage and carrots, providing crunch and vibrant color.
- Bean Sprouts: Adds a delightful crisp texture and freshness to the filling.
- Thinly Sliced Mushrooms: Earthy and savory, they add depth to the vegetable medley.
- Garlic: Essential for a pungent, aromatic base flavor.
- Soy Sauce: Contributes a rich umami and salty foundation.
- Sesame Oil: Delivers a distinctive nutty aroma and flavor.
- Ginger: Freshly grated ginger adds a warm, zesty kick.
- Cornstarch: Used with water to create a slurry for sealing the wrappers.
- Water: To mix with cornstarch for the sealing paste.
- Cooking Oil: A light spray or brush for coating the rolls before air frying.

How to Make Perfectly Crispy Air Fryer Spring Rolls
These crispy delights are fantastic any time, but I especially love them as a healthier, yet equally satisfying, game-day treat. Who says everything you eat watching the Super Bowl has to give you a heart attack? Let’s get rolling!
- Prepare the Flavor Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, soy sauce, fragrant sesame oil, and grated ginger. Whisk these ingredients together until they are thoroughly blended, creating a delicious marinade for your vegetables.
- Marinate the Vegetables: Add the tricolor coleslaw mix, fresh bean sprouts, and thinly sliced mushrooms to the sauce mixture. Gently toss everything together, ensuring the vegetables are well coated with the flavorful sauce. Allow this mixture to marinate for a minimum of 5 minutes, then give it another quick toss to redistribute the flavors.
- Prepare Wrappers for Rolling: Lay out two spring roll wrappers on a clean, dry surface, overlapping them slightly to form a larger diamond shape. This provides extra durability and crispiness for the final roll.
- Add the Filling: Place a generous spoonful of the marinated vegetable mixture near the bottom center of the overlapping wrappers.
- Create the Sealing Slurry: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water until a smooth, thin paste (slurry) is formed. This will be your “glue” to seal the rolls.
- Roll the Spring Rolls: Fold the bottom corner of the wrappers tightly over the filling. Then, fold the left and right sides inward, neatly tucking them over the filling. Continue to roll the wrapper upwards, away from you, as tightly as possible without tearing, until you reach the top corner. Dip your finger in the cornstarch-water mixture and brush it along the final edge to seal the roll completely.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Preheating is essential for achieving optimal crispiness.
- Prepare for Frying: Lightly coat each rolled spring roll with a thin layer of cooking oil using a brush or a non-stick cooking spray. Carefully place the prepared spring rolls in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are arranged in a single layer and do not touch each other. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air Fry to Golden Perfection: Air fry for 10-12 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time (around 5-6 minutes), carefully open the basket and turn the spring rolls over to ensure even browning and crispiness on all sides. Continue frying until they are gloriously golden brown and wonderfully crispy.
- Serve Immediately: Transfer the hot, crispy air fryer spring rolls to a serving platter. Serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as classic sweet chili sauce, savory soy sauce, or a rich peanut sauce.
Kitchen Supplies You’ll Need for Air Fryer Spring Rolls
While I’m certainly a fan of the indulgent taste of deep-fried spring rolls, sometimes they can feel a bit heavy. It’s truly wonderful to have a lighter, equally delicious option that doesn’t compromise on flavor or that satisfying crunch. Here’s what you’ll need to make these air fryer marvels:
- Air Fryer: The star of the show, delivering crispy results with minimal oil.
- Large Bowl: For combining and marinating your vegetable filling.
- Small Bowl: Essential for mixing the cornstarch and water sealant.
- Brush or Spray Bottle: For lightly coating the spring rolls with oil before air frying.
- Kitchen Shears (optional): Useful for trimming wrappers if needed, though not strictly necessary.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Ingredients
- 10.5 oz spring roll wrappers (pastry wrappers, not rice spring roll wrappers – 1 package)
- 3 cups tricolor coleslaw mix
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1 cup mushrooms (thinly sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)

- Cooking oil (for coating)
Instructions

- Add the coleslaw mix, bean sprouts, and mushrooms to the sauce mixture. Toss well to coat. Allow the mixture to marinate for 5 minutes before tossing again.
- Lay out two overlapping spring roll wrappers like a diamond.
- Place a spoonful of the vegetable mixture in the center.
- Mix the cornstarch and water. Set aside.
- Fold the sides of the wrapper over the filling, then fold the bottom over and roll tightly. Use the cornstarch-water mixture to seal the edge.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly coat the spring rolls with cooking oil and place them in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not touching.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, turning over halfway through, or until the spring rolls are golden brown and crispy.

Notes
Notes: I used two spring roll wrappers for each egg roll because they are very thin. This also adds extra crispiness to the final spring roll.
Also, notice that these are spring roll pastry wrappers and not Vietnamese rice spring roll wrappers. Spring roll pastry can be found in some grocery stores but is readily available in the freezer section of Asian grocery markets.
