As the crisp air of autumn settles in and the holiday season draws near, my mind invariably turns to Christmas decorating. Each year, it’s a delightful tradition to select a distinct color theme that will guide the decoration of our Christmas tree and all the festive ornaments that adorn it. Over the years, our home has embraced various styles – from serene neutrals one year to dazzling metallics last season, and even a charming Americana theme many years ago, long before the days of Kleinworth & Co. Yet, this year, I found myself in a delightful dilemma, wrestling with what my heart truly desired to create for the upcoming holiday festivities. I knew I needed a spark, a burst of fresh inspiration to kickstart my creative journey.
Discovering Your Perfect Christmas Decor Theme at Hobby Lobby
Thankfully, the wonderful team at Hobby Lobby extended a fantastic invitation: to wander through their aisles and let their incredible selection help me pinpoint the exact holiday theme I yearned for. Stepping into the store, I quickly realized they truly have *everything* imaginable for Christmas – a fact that simultaneously made the process both wonderfully easy and delightfully challenging. Easy, because once a theme is chosen, every item needed to bring it to life is readily available. Challenging, because the sheer abundance of adorable, captivating decor made narrowing down my choices an incredibly daunting, yet exhilarating, task. Join me as I share some of the fabulous finds that nearly stole my heart before landing on my ultimate black, white, and green vision!
A Feast for the Eyes: Tempting Christmas Themes and Finds
My journey began with a magnificent discovery: an utterly awesome, giant mug designed for cocoa. This find immediately sparked an idea – I could create an entire hot cocoa bar-themed tree! Hobby Lobby had all the coordinating decorations, from whimsical marshmallow ornaments to tiny candy cane accents, making it a perfectly viable and incredibly charming option. It was hard to resist the allure of a cozy, sweet Christmas theme centered around warm beverages.
Next, my eyes landed on an absolutely adorable gingerbread house, presented in the most delightful pastel hues. Naturally, there were matching tree ornaments and a plethora of other home decor pieces designed to deck out an entire house like a whimsical candy shoppe. The pastel gingerbread theme was undeniably cute, offering a soft, playful aesthetic that was incredibly tempting. Its charm was almost overwhelming!
As I continued my exploration, I encountered several of these majestic, giant nutcrackers that never fail to make me swoon. Their classic appeal and impressive stature are simply captivating.
Rounding a corner, I was met with an enormous display showcasing an incredible variety of nutcrackers. It might be a lesser-known fact, but I am an avid nutcracker collector! While some enjoy gathering snow globes or elaborate miniature Christmas villages, my passion lies in these charming figures. This grand display at Hobby Lobby was enough to make me let out a little squeal of pure joy and excitement.
Given my deep affection for these festive figures, it should come as no surprise that this adorable baker nutcracker found its way into my shopping cart that very day. A perfect, quirky addition to my growing collection!
Beyond the nutcrackers, I stumbled upon this truly beautiful sprig of mistletoe. Its natural elegance and festive charm instantly captured my heart, making it an absolute must-have for the season.
My design compass swung again when I spotted this delightful buffalo check reindeer. For a moment, I thought I had finally landed on my theme for the year. Oh, how I adore buffalo check – its rustic yet classic appeal is utterly captivating, and I found myself swooning over this particular piece.
The “Aha!” Moment: Black, White & Green Christmas Theme
However, it wasn’t until I discovered this exquisite stocking, presented in a sophisticated silver and black combination, that my heart truly began to beat with excitement. This piece whispered of elegance and a fresh, modern aesthetic.
Then, just moments later, I stumbled upon this gorgeous crown ornament and immediately fell head over heels in love. Its stately charm and subtle sparkle added another layer to the developing theme.
The ultimate deciding factor, the sweet icing on the cake, was this captivating ornament featuring a bold black and white stripe. Oh, my enduring love for black and white stripes! At that moment, I was completely smitten, and my Christmas theme for the year was irrevocably solidified: Black and White with vibrant green accents. This elegant and contemporary palette will be the focal point for the rest of our home’s holiday decor. With my vision crystal clear, I gathered all the necessary supplies at Hobby Lobby to craft my stockings exactly as I envisioned them. I even found the most fabulous lighted black tree for my office – it’s absolutely perfect for the rocker-glam decor I’ve cultivated in that space.
Easy DIY Decorated Christmas Stockings: Black, White & Green Style
One of the many joys of shopping at Hobby Lobby is their comprehensive selection of both crafts and decor. This meant I could pick up every single item I needed – and then some! We had the most wonderful time exploring the aisles for hours (and I still didn’t manage to see the entire store!). I’m already eagerly anticipating my next visit.
To create these beautifully decorated Christmas stockings, the process is incredibly simple. Here’s what you’ll need and how to do it:
- Plain, unadorned Christmas stockings (these serve as your perfect blank canvas)
- Wide burlap ribbon in black (to add texture and a rustic-chic touch)
- Green ribbon (for that pop of accent color)
- Black embellishments (choose buttons, small decorative pieces, or charms that complement your style)
- White ribbon (I already had this on hand, perfect for contrast)
- Sharp scissors
- Hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks
The transformation was remarkably straightforward. First, I carefully measured and cut each of the chosen ribbons to fit perfectly around the top cuff of the plain stocking. Using my hot glue gun, I meticulously attached the ribbons, layering them to create a custom look. The black burlap provided a lovely base, topped with the white and green ribbons for definition and color. Next, I gently snipped off any existing buttons or simple embellishments that came with the plain stockings, replacing them with my selected black decorative pieces for a cohesive and refined finish. It’s truly that simple! (Please excuse the bright lighting in my craft space – I often find my creative flow late at night under the glow of my big studio lights.)
These custom-decorated stockings will undoubtedly be a perfect complement, tying together my elegant black, white, and green Christmas theme beautifully.
My time spent exploring the festive aisles of Hobby Lobby was absolutely delightful. Perhaps next year, I’ll indulge in the joy of decorating a different themed tree for each room, eliminating the need to choose just one beloved style!
