Why Ritz Crackers Make the Best Breading

The secret to the irresistible crunch and rich flavor of these pork chops lies in the Ritz crackers. Their unique buttery, slightly salty profile and exceptionally flaky texture create a breading that is far superior to traditional breadcrumbs. When baked, the crushed crackers transform into a golden, unbelievably crisp crust that locks in the juices of the pork, ensuring every bite is moist and flavorful. This isn’t just about adding texture; it’s about infusing a distinct, comforting taste that elevates a simple pork chop into something extraordinary. The natural oils in the Ritz crackers also contribute to a beautiful browning effect, giving the chops an appetizing, golden finish without the need for deep frying.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ritz Cracker Pork Chops

What is the easiest way to crush Ritz crackers for breading?

Crushing the crackers is incredibly simple, and there’s no need for any fancy equipment. My preferred method is to transfer the crackers into a large zip-top bag. Then, gently crush them with your hands. Ritz crackers are famously flaky, so they break apart easily with minimal effort. You don’t need a rolling pin or a food processor, though you could certainly use one for a finer crumb if desired. Sometimes, I even just crush them directly in their original packaging tubes before pouring them into a bowl, saving on cleanup!

Can I add sauce to these pork chops after baking?

Absolutely! While these pork chops are delicious on their own, adding a sauce after baking can take them to another level. Consider ladling over a creamy white gravy, a savory chicken gravy, a vibrant salsa, a classic marinara, or even a rich cheese sauce. The possibilities are endless, and any of these additions would complement the crispy, buttery coating wonderfully. Just be sure to add the sauce after they come out of the oven to maintain the crispness of the Ritz cracker crust.

What is the best way to store leftover pork chops?

To keep any leftover pork chops fresh and safe, place them in a shallow, airtight container. It’s good practice to label the container with the date before refrigerating. Properly stored, these pork chops will maintain their quality for up to 3 days. For optimal food safety, it’s crucial to transfer food to the refrigerator within one hour of serving to inhibit bacterial growth.

Quick & easy Baked Ritz Pork Chops

Why use a shallow container for storing leftovers?

The choice of container size is important for food safety. A shallow container allows the contents to chill much faster compared to a large, deep container. Rapid chilling is key to preventing bacteria from multiplying. Food should ideally reach its chilled storage temperature (below 40 degrees Fahrenheit) within an hour or two after cooking. If a deep container of hot food takes several hours to cool down, bacteria can have ample time to grow, compromising the safety and quality of your leftovers. Using a shallow container ensures your food cools quickly and safely.

How many servings does this recipe yield?

Our family of five has a hearty appetite, so four pieces of pork chop simply won’t cut it! That’s why this recipe is crafted to serve generously, making up to 8 portions. We typically purchase a larger pack of 8+ pork chops to ensure everyone gets enough. This quantity also makes it perfect for feeding a larger family or having delicious leftovers for the next day.

Can this recipe be doubled or halved?

Yes, this recipe is incredibly versatile and can easily be adjusted to fit your needs. If you’re feeding a crowd or want to meal prep, you can absolutely double the recipe. A large sheet pan can accommodate up to 16 chops. Conversely, if you’re cooking for one or two, feel free to halve the ingredients. The cooking method remains the same, just adjust the quantity of ingredients accordingly.

Can this be made with bone-in pork chops?

Certainly! This recipe works beautifully with bone-in pork chops as well. The main adjustment needed is to increase the cooking time to approximately 35-40 minutes. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit for safe consumption.

What kind of pork chops are best for this recipe?

For the crispiest coating and most even cooking, we recommend using thin-cut, boneless pork chops. Their uniform thickness ensures they cook through quickly without drying out, and the breading adheres perfectly. If you opt for thicker chops, boneless or bone-in, be sure to pound them lightly to an even thickness for best results.

Can I make these pork chops in an air fryer?

While the original recipe calls for baking, these Ritz Cracker Pork Chops can absolutely be made in an air fryer for an even faster and crispier result! Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the coated pork chops in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 145°F. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of the chops, so keep an eye on them.

How to Make Delicious Ritz Cracker Pork Chops

Preparing these delightful baked pork chops is straightforward. Follow these simple steps for a mouthwatering meal:

  1. Preheat your oven to a robust 425 degrees Fahrenheit. This high temperature helps achieve that desirable crispy coating.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers with the panko breadcrumbs, minced onions, Pappy’s seasoning, granulated garlic, salt, and black pepper. Toss these ingredients thoroughly until they are well combined, creating your flavorful breading mixture.
  3. Pour the mayonnaise into a shallow dish. This will serve as the adhesive for your breading.
  4. Take each pork chop and lay it in the mayonnaise, turning it to ensure it’s completely coated on all sides. The mayo provides moisture and flavor, helping the cracker mixture adhere.
  5. Next, dredge each mayo-coated pork chop generously in the cracker mixture. Press firmly to ensure a thick and even coating all around the chop.
  6. Arrange the fully coated pork chops on a foil-lined baking sheet. For extra crispiness and to allow air circulation, you can place them on a wire baking rack set over the foil-lined sheet.
  7. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the pork chops reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chop to confirm doneness. Once cooked, let them rest for a few minutes before serving to retain their juices.

Can this be made with frozen pork chops?

Attempting to bake pork chops from a frozen state would significantly increase the required cooking time and could lead to uneven cooking and a less desirable texture. For the best results, we highly recommend thawing your pork chops completely before preparing this recipe.
